tru comers- the remix ep / competition

finally, switzerland enters the indy scene with a brillant remix ep by the tru comers! none other than the freestyle professors, the alps cru and the dysfunkshunal familee are featured on this little nugget here on comin tru records!

"two and a half years ago we did a remix project with beats of us no one intended to use. we added accapellas and here's the final result:

http://sns-crates.blogspot.com/2007/04/tru-comers-remix-project.html

then in the beginning of 2008 we thought we should do another remix project– but this time on vinyl! so we asked several artists for exclusive accapellas and in the end we managed to get these three and then started to produce the beats for them. unfortunately the whole project really took its time...

the tru comers are dj sperrow and dj x-pert. we are producing beats since the age of 14/15 and we also did the scratches on this remixes.

This product is strictly non profit- we're even if we manage to sell each and every copy."

what can you expect of this ep? well, you'll get 3 remixes, the 3 instrumentals, plus 2 bonus beats. the record is limited to 300 copies. the best thing– it only costs $20, which in my opinion is pretty cheap nowadays. also, they are offering a tru comers t-shirt.

again, i'm honored to bless my readers with full tracks– big up for that! and, you know me... i have 1 FREE COPY TO GIVE AWAY!

the competition:

to win this you have to download their first remix project, then send an email to cratesofag at hispeed dot ch in which you tell me how many tracks the first tru comers project had (excluding intro and instrumentals). all correct answers will get numbered in the exact same order as i received them. then i will play dice. the first throw will decide how many times i roll the die, and then every run will be added. for example: first throw says 3- then i have to roll the die three times resulting in these numbers: 4 + 2 + 3 = 9. answer number 9 won. this competition ends on 1. august 2009!

tumi

we have been to the us and europe for a while now, let's go to other continents– what's up africa! what's up australia!

honestly, i can not tell you much about australian wax, but i know a few dope releases. and pretty much anything i know comes from nuff said records, which is run by the australian rap veteran prowla. i bought this ep in '02, just when it dropped and i love it since then. it features an mc called tumi, with its very smooth rhyme style.

"Born in exile in Tanzania in 1981, Tumi returned to Soweto, South Africa in 1992. Formerly known as MC Fatboy, Tumi Molekane is an MC/Poet who has done countless work on the Johannesburg hip-hop scene.

2002 saw the vinyl/CD release of his EP "A Dream Led to this" on Nuffsaid Recordings in Australia, as well as further cooperations with Australian MC/Producer Prowla."

TUMI "A DREAM LED TO THIS" EP '02

1. A DREAM LED TO THIS
2. THE INNER VIEW
3. IVONNE
4. SHE - SPIRIT FANCIES
5. PEOPLE OF THE LIGHT

the combination of tumi's raps and prowlas and plutonic lab's beats fit fantastic! each track is hot!! i'm not sure how hard it is to find a copy these days, but keep your eyes open.

hopefully more australian releases show up on this space in the future.

enjoy!

sons of sam - the unbirth ep / va003

it's time to honor the people over at vinyl addicts.

a few years back this guys had a unique and amazing mid 90ies indy blog, which most of you guys knew and loved. similar to my site they did not just post mp3 after mp3 but also tried to give some background info on artists and their projects. i can not recall the year, but one day they quit the blogging scene to return with a new concept and design later on– vinyladdicts.net

smoove, red, maze, ol'eightyfive and atilla now run the vinyl addicts site with its interviews, reviews, forum and last but not least special projects. and the latest one of those projects just found its way over to my place today– sons of sam "the unbirth ep"

yeah baby! while a big part of the indy community (myself included) was/is looking for the sons of sam 12" from '93 called "ooh he got an afro", the va guys managed, apparently with help by bibow, to track down the xav and samson and initiate a release that would follow their previous two projects such as lord finesse & mike smooth and sport g & mastermind.

"This time we would like to present six previously unreleased tracks from Sons Of Sam to you and yours. Many of you will know Sons Of Sam due their sought after 'Oooh He Got An Afro / Charisma' 12" which was released on Workshop Records in 1993. We had the oppurtunity to dig out six previously unreleased tracks from 1993/1994. Result: The Unbirth EP!" [vinyl addicts]

so here's what you can get– an ep with 6 amazing(!) unreleased cuts by sons of sam. in case you purchase two copies of the ep, you'll get a free copy of the equally dope 7" with alternative versions of "oooh he got an afro" and "charisma"! the ep's come with a glossy press photo and press-sheet! the ep's are limited to 250 copies, while there are 100 copies of the 7"– both handnumbered.

SONS OF SAM "THE UNBIRTH" EP '09

1. IT'S LIKE THAT
2. DO MY THANG
3. MOVE FAKIN'
4. NOFIN' NICE
5. GET IT ON
6. BAD MAN

SONS OF SAM 7" '09

1. OOOH HE GOT AN AFRO (ALTERNATE VERSION)
2. CHARISMA (ALTERNATE VERSION)

SNIPPETS

i have to be honest, in my opinion there are way too many dope limited/private record pressings out there. i really had to stop buying everything because it had become super expensive. but after checking the snippets of vinyl addicts' 3rd installment i was like– damn, i have to get this! there's a good chance a few copies are still available, so don't sleep!

on another note, i just wanted to emphasize that the vinyl addicts forum is a great place for mid 90ies rap lovers. you'll find a lot of people with knowledge. similar to the diggers with gratitude board, which in my opinion is more early nineties. speaking of dwg, you can find a dope review of the sons of sam 12" over there.
